Things To Do This March Holidays (14 to 20 March 2022)

Term 1 of 2022 is finally coming to an end! With the long-awaited March Holidays around the corner, are you looking for things to occupy your little ones in the next week?

Whether you’re planning to let your kids just stay at home, bring them to explore the city a little bit (but remember to take all the necessary precautions!), or take them on a few playdates, we have a few ideas for you to make the most of the school break!

Although one week may seem short, it will definitely seem like a drag if there’s nothing to do – so read on and start planning!

1. Visit a museum or two

Museums are boring, says no one ever! Singapore is home to world-class museums that make the visitor experience highly interactive and engaging, so even kids will be able to join in on the fun.

From thought-provoking installations to historical artefacts, museum exhibits are a great place to connect what we learn in the textbooks with real-world experiences. Who knows, your kids visit to the museum could fuel their interest in history, science, or art, and inspire their future work!

A great one to check out is the Gallery Children’s Biennale at the National Gallery Singapore, which is ongoing till the end of this year. The set of 9 exhibitions situated at various points in the gallery are free to access without any purchase of museum tickets.

2. Join a short course or workshop

Learning something new immediately makes the holidays so much more productive! If you usually don’t have time to send your child for regular enrichment classes, the holiday is a good time to let them try out a new skill. If it works out well, you could even explore long-term arrangements for them to attend a class!

What about getting in on the coding bandwagon, or have some hands-on fun with pottery? Believe it or not – cooking is also a great one as children will get to practice number skills by measuring ingredients, and witness the science behind food-making.

On the more academic side of things, we have our Math Holiday Bootcamp coming right up! The 3-day intensive course for P3 and P4 students is meant to nurture a love for math and challenge participants to tackle Math Olympiad-type questions.

3. Lose yourself in the world of books

Concerned about going out due to the high number of COVID-19 cases? Well, if you can’t explore the real world physically, you can explore real and fantasy worlds through books!

You name it, they have it – there are books for all kinds of genre-lovers, from historical fiction to fantasy adventure stories. While some books are entertaining, some also have the added advantage of teaching readers a thing or two about the world, or themselves.

Engage deeper with books by discussing them over the dinner table. Perhaps you can organise a book exchange with other kids of the same age range, or challenge your child to practice writing by coming up with their own alternative ending to their favourite story!

4. Enjoy nature as a family

Most of us, including the children, are glued to our devices more than ever. So while the holidays are here, why not get out for some fresh air and soak in the sun together?

It’s widely known that exercise and nature have plenty of benefits for our health and mental well-being. Depending on what you have on hand, you can grab a ball, or your roller blades, or your skateboard, and head on to your neighbourhood park for an evening of active fun!

If your family likes to hike or cycle, you can take on the Coast-to-Coast Trail, a 36km trail linking up park connectors and nature reserves from Jurong Lake Gardens to Coney Island. Of course, you don’t have to tackle it all at once, and you can easily stop by the nearest MRT or shopping mall for a break anytime!

Conclusion

There’s a multitude of things to do – if you would only take a minute to think and plan! Who says the short March holidays can’t also be fulfilling and exciting?
