If your child studies at Raffles Girls’ School (RGS) or Raffles Institution (RI), you’ve probably heard names like Raffles Academy, Euler Programme, or Galileo Programme mentioned by teachers or classmates.
These programmes are designed to nurture students who demonstrate exceptional aptitude and curiosity in Mathematics, Science and other academic disciplines. They provide opportunities for students to explore topics beyond the standard curriculum, get a taste of hands-on research, and develop their curiosity, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
For parents, however, it can sometimes be difficult to keep track of all the different programmes, names, and what their child is involved in. So, for a quick glimpse, here’s some of the key Mathematics and Science talent programmes available in Raffles Girls’ School and Raffles Institution (Secondary).

Raffles Girls’ School (RGS)
Raffles Academy
Raffles Academy is RGS’s flagship talent development programme for students with exceptional academic ability and a strong passion for learning.
Students may participate through either course-based or research-based pathways.
The course-based option allows students to study advanced content in a specific discipline beyond the regular curriculum, while the research-based pathway involves working on an extended research or problem-solving project under the guidance of a teacher-mentor.
Students may also participate in programmes such as the Science Mentorship Programme, where they work closely with researchers and mentors to investigate real-world scientific questions.
The emphasis is not simply on learning more content, but on developing intellectual curiosity, independent thinking and research skills.

Raffles Institution (RI)
Raffles Academy
For Year 3 and Year 4 students, Raffles Academy offers specialised pull-out classes for students with demonstrated talent and passion for subjects including Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Geography, History, and Literature.
Students admitted to the programme study an enriched and accelerated curriculum that goes well beyond the standard IP syllabus.
Besides advanced classroom learning, students may undertake research projects and mentorships with universities, research institutes and industry partners. International attachments, expert seminars and discussions with like-minded peers further broaden their learning experience.
Euler Programme
The Euler Programme is RI’s Mathematics enrichment programme for students with a strong aptitude and passion for the subject.
Rather than focusing solely on syllabus acceleration, the programme develops mathematical thinking through inquiry-based learning, challenging problems and deeper conceptual exploration.
Students are encouraged to reason, investigate and connect mathematical ideas across different topics, building habits of thought that extend beyond examination requirements.
Galileo Programme
The Galileo Programme provides lower secondary students with opportunities to explore Science beyond the classroom.
Students investigate scientific concepts through authentic inquiry, hands-on exploration and discussions about how scientific knowledge can be applied to solve real-world problems.
The programme aims to cultivate curiosity, critical thinking and a genuine appreciation for scientific discovery.

Do students in these programmes still need tuition?
Students selected for these programmes are among the strongest academically in their cohort. They are typically highly motivated, intellectually curious and capable of handling challenging material.
That said, even high-performing students benefit from additional academic support for different reasons.
Strength in one area doesn’t mean strength in every subject.
A student who thrives in Mathematics may still find English or their Mother Tongue subject challenging.
As talent programmes are highly demanding, students often devote significant time to enrichment activities, research projects and competitions. This can leave less time to strengthen weaker subjects or consolidate schoolwork.
Advanced learning and exam preparation are not always the same thing.
Programmes such as Raffles Academy, Euler and Galileo are designed to stretch students intellectually.
Their goal is to develop deeper understanding, creativity and independent thinking.
School examinations, however, also reward skills such as:
- answering questions precisely;
- managing time effectively;
- presenting clear working and explanations;
- avoiding common exam pitfalls; and
- applying knowledge consistently under timed conditions.
Students may understand difficult concepts very well but still lose marks due to exam technique or insufficient familiarity with school assessment styles.
A specialised IP tuition programme can complement talent development programmes by helping students consolidate key concepts while developing the practical skills needed to perform consistently in school assessments and major examinations.
