2024 A Level Results: Our Students’ Great Achievements

Last year’s JC graduates received their 2024 A Level results recently! We are so proud of our students who have achieved significant improvements and great results after months of hard work in the last year. Our JC tutors who journeyed with these students were so excited to receive messages of good results and appreciation!

Some of students scored really impressive overall scores, with 90 RP and 80+ RP! We are so glad to see them achieving their goals and we can’t wait to see where their next pursuits take them.

Some of our students were so happy to tell us about their distinctions in certain subjects, because they used to struggle so much with them. The relief and joy of seeing their hard work pay off must be so incredible! Our tutors are so happy to see these students go from being so demoralised to being confident and independent learners!

2024 A Level results in Singapore

The GCE A Levels is an assessment that consists of students typically taking 4 content subjects, General Paper, and Project Work (in JC1). With less than 2 years (or 3 years in Millennia Institute) to complete the syllabus, it is highly intensive in terms of content covered and pace of learning. As a certification that can be used for university applications, the A Level is regarded as a high-stakes exam for pre-university students.

Out of the 10,889 candidates who took the A Level exams in 2024, 94.2% achieved at least 3 H2 passes and a pass in General Paper (GP) or Knowledge and Inquiry (KI). According to the Ministry of Education, this performance is comparable to the results of previous cohorts.

JCs no longer sharing stats of school performance

Curious about the A Level results of schools like Hwa Chong Institution and Raffles Institution? In the past, schools would release statistics such as the number or percentage of students who achieved at least 3 H2 distinctions, students who achieved a perfect score (90 RP), or number of distinctions for each subject. This information was not just useful for A Level takers to gauge how well they did compared to their peers; it was also helpful for potential JC students to gauge the school’s ability in preparing students for the A Level exams.

However, this year you would find it tough to find information on each school’s overall performance – that’s because the JCs have made a joint decision not to share these statistics publicly anymore. The agreement by the principals of all Singapore JCs and Millennia Institute is a signal of support to MOE’s stance of reducing the over-emphasis on academic achievements, and embracing more holistic development.
