2023 PSLE Cut Off Points For IP Schools (2024 Intake)

The secondary school posting for 2024 Sec 1 students has concluded recently, and with it, some of the school cut off points have been revealed!

While MOE has not released any official updates about the latest PSLE cut off points for the 2024 intake of Sec 1s, some sources have gathered some of these cut off points for IP schools. Please note that these are only for reference – such as by students and parents who are aiming to get into certain schools next year.

Changes to PSLE cut off points

If you have not been in the loop about the changes to the education system in Singapore, it’s also worth mentioning a few changes you may notice in the PSLE cut off points table.

Firstly, PSLE scores are now tallied using the AL system, which gives a PSLE score between 4 to 32 – with 4 being the best possible score. Each subject is graded according to a number from 1 to 8 (1 being the best), and the AL scores of the four subjects (English, Math, Mother Tongue, Science) are totalled to give the PSLE score.

Secondly, you will no longer see Express, Normal (Academic) and Normal (Technical) streams. Instead, they will be called Posting Groups, with the admission scores of G3, G2, and G1 corresponding to the Express, Normal (Academic) and Normal (Technical) streams respectively. What’s different is that the Posting Group is only used during admission to schools and to guide the student’s initial level of subjects. Thereafter, students have opportunities to increase or decrease their subject level according to their performance and preference.

How to use PSLE cut off points

Cut off points for each school indicate the score of the student with the lowest score who entered the school that year. This number is subject to change every year, affected by factors such as cohort size, number of students who applied to that school, and the overall PSLE performance of that cohort.

PSLE cut off points can be used as a gauge to help students set targets for their PSLE score, especially if there are some particular schools they want to enter. After getting your PSLE score, PSLE cut off points are also a good indicator for letting students know which schools there are likely to be able to get in.
